About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems focused on time-series data. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB, and event-driven architectures. You will play a key role in designing APIs, optimizing large-scale time-series queries, and building reliable distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java.
Build and optimize applications that process and store large-scale time-series data using PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB.
Design and implement event-driven architectures and CQRS-based solutions.
Develop secure, high-performance RESTful APIs for time-series data consumption.
Optimize SQL queries for high-volume, time-range data retrieval and aggregation.
Implement TimescaleDB features such as hypertables, continuous aggregates, compression, and retention policies.
Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver APIs that efficiently support data visualization tools such as ECharts.
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
Troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of backend software development experience.
Strong expertise in Java and backend application development.
Solid understanding of CQRS and event-driven architecture.
Experience with distributed systems and microservices.
Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL.
Strong SQL query optimization skills, particularly for large-scale time-range queries.
Experience designing APIs for time-series data, including pagination, aggregation, filtering, and downsampling.
Familiarity with API performance optimization and scalability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Axon Framework.
Knowledge of Apache Kafka or other event streaming platforms.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
