About the Role

V I Point Solutions is looking for a hands-on **Internal System Administrator** to manage and support the company's internal IT infrastructure. The role will be responsible for IT asset management, end-user technical support, network administration, endpoint security, patch management, and day-to-day infrastructure operations.

The organisation primarily uses **Ubuntu Linux desktops**, with Windows systems and a planned phased migration to macOS. Strong practical experience in Ubuntu desktop administration is therefore a **core requirement** for this position.

Key Responsibilities

1. IT Asset Management

* Maintain accurate inventory of laptops, desktops, monitors, peripherals, printers, UPS systems, mobile devices and network equipment.
* Manage the complete asset lifecycle including procurement, tagging, allocation, transfer, repair/RMA and disposal.
* Handle IT asset issuance and returns during employee onboarding and exit, including data wiping, re-imaging and documentation.
* Conduct periodic physical asset audits and reconcile discrepancies.
* Track warranties, AMCs, software licences and vendor contracts.
* Coordinate with vendors/OEMs for repairs and service issues.
* Maintain required documentation for SEZ-related asset movement.

2. End-User IT Support

* Provide first and second-line technical support to employees.
* Troubleshoot Ubuntu Linux, Windows and macOS systems, business applications, email, VPN, printers and audio/video conferencing equipment.
* Troubleshoot Ubuntu-specific issues including APT/Snap/Flatpak, drivers, kernels, permissions, disk encryption and application compatibility.
* Provision and maintain standard OS images for Ubuntu, Windows and macOS.
* Support the company's planned macOS migration, including device evaluation, deployment, enrolment, application compatibility, data migration and user training.
* Set up workstations, user accounts, email, VPN access and shared-drive permissions.
* Manage IT helpdesk tickets, prioritise incidents and ensure timely resolution.
* Prepare knowledge-base articles, SOPs and user guides.
* Conduct IT/security induction sessions for new employees.

3. Network & Infrastructure Administration

* Administer and monitor office LAN/WAN infrastructure, switches, access points, cabling and ISP connections.
* Configure and troubleshoot routers, managed switches, Wi-Fi and VLANs.
* Monitor network performance, connectivity, latency and packet loss.
* Coordinate with ISPs and network vendors for outages and escalations.
* Administer **Sophos Firewall**, including firewall rules, web/application filtering, VPN, IPS policies and firmware updates.
* Maintain network topology, IP schemes, VLAN and port documentation.
* Support internal servers, backup jobs, restore testing and file/print services.

4. Patch Management & Endpoint Security

* Ensure all systems and applications remain supported and updated.
* Manage regular OS, browser, application and firmware patching.
* Manage Ubuntu security updates, kernel updates and LTS upgrades.
* Deploy and monitor antivirus/EDR solutions and respond to security alerts.
* Monitor relevant CVEs and security advisories and coordinate timely remediation.
* Implement endpoint security controls including disk encryption, screen-lock policies, USB/removable-media controls and local administrator restrictions.
* Support IT security audits, client security questionnaires and access reviews.
* Maintain and test backup and recovery procedures.

5. Reporting & Coordination

* Prepare reports on IT assets, audits, patch compliance, helpdesk tickets, resolution times and outstanding risks.
* Coordinate with **HR** for employee onboarding and exit IT processes.
* Coordinate with **Finance** for asset records, capitalisation, depreciation inputs and vendor invoices.
* Identify opportunities for hardware refreshes, capacity upgrades and IT process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience

* **2–4 years of hands-on experience** in System Administration, IT Support or Internal IT Infrastructure.
* **Strong hands-on Ubuntu Linux desktop administration and troubleshooting – mandatory.**
* Proficiency in Linux command line, package management, user/permission management, systemd, networking configuration and log-based troubleshooting.
* Working knowledge of Windows desktop administration and troubleshooting.
* Exposure to macOS administration or strong willingness and ability to learn.
* Strong understanding of **TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, NAT, VPN and Wi-Fi**.
* Practical experience with routers, managed switches and firewalls.
* Experience with patch management, antivirus/EDR and basic vulnerability remediation.
* Experience maintaining IT asset inventories and conducting physical audits.
* Familiarity with IT helpdesk/ticketing systems and incident management.
* Excellent spoken and written English.
* Strong documentation, communication and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise multiple issues and take ownership until resolution.

Preferred Skills

* Experience with **Sophos Firewall / Sophos Central**.
* Experience with other firewall platforms such as Fortinet, SonicWall, pfSense or Cisco ASA.
* Experience in an SEZ/Infopark environment.
* Knowledge of Active Directory/LDAP, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
* Scripting knowledge in **Bash, PowerShell or Python**.
* Experience with RMM/MDM or endpoint management tools such as Landscape, Ansible, Jamf or Apple Business Manager.
* Experience with cross-platform endpoint migration.
* Knowledge of ISO 27001 or similar information security frameworks.
* Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, CCNA, RHCSA, MCSA/MCSE or Sophos certifications.

Educational Qualification

**Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics or a related discipline.**

Candidates with strong relevant practical experience and industry certifications may also be considered.
