Business Central Consultant

Role details: Business Central Consultant
Level L2- (functional support)
Engagement type-Contract, 6 to 12 months
Location-India (remote), with short onsite assignments as required

Key responsibilities
Implementation and go-live support
- Support user acceptance testing and sign-off of end-to-end processes: procure to pay, order to cash, inventory and record to report.
- Validate migrated master data: chart of accounts, dimensions, customers, vendors, items, fixed assets and bank accounts.
- Reconcile opening balances, open receivables, open payables and stock values against legacy system reports.
- Check go-live readiness: posting groups, number series, VAT posting setup, approval workflows, user permissions and report layouts.
- Prepare quick-reference guides and run end-user training sessions.

Hypercare
- Provide on-the-floor support to users during the first weeks of live operation.
Log, triage and resolve L2 tickets within agreed SLAs; escalate code defects and product issues to L3 or Microsoft.
- Maintain a daily issue log and share regular status updates.
- Support the first month-end close and tax reporting in Business Central.
- Document configurations, processes and known issues for knowledge transfer.

Ongoing L2 support
- Handle functional support requests: setup changes, user and permission management, workflow changes and report layout adjustments.
- Perform root-cause analysis on recurring issues and maintain a known-errors log.
- Test Microsoft's monthly updates and twice-yearly major releases in a sandbox before they reach production.
- Support period-end closes, audits and tax reporting.
- Write functional specifications for enhancements to be built by L3 developers.

Required skills and experience
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on functional experience in Business Central or Dynamics NAV, including at least 2 go-lives or post go-live support engagements.
- Strong Business Central finance knowledge: general ledger, dimensions, payables, receivables, bank reconciliation, fixed assets and period closing.
- Working knowledge of purchase, sales and inventory processes and how they post to the ledger through posting groups.
- Experience validating data migration using configuration packages and Excel, with solid reconciliation skills.
VAT setup and reporting in Business Central.
- User, permission set and security group administration.
- Experience working in a ticket-based support model with SLAs.
- Clear spoken and written English; confident working with client finance and operations teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or IT.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel for short onsite assignments.

Good to have
- Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant Associate (exam MB-800).
- Basic AL and Visual Studio Code skills to read extensions and debug issues before escalating.
- Experience integrating Business Central with e-invoicing service providers.
- Experience migrating from legacy ERP systems to Business Central.
- Power BI or Excel-based reporting on Business Central data, and Power Automate approval flows.
- Experience with warehouse management or manufacturing modules in Business Central.
