Senior SQL Database Designer & Developer (PostgreSQL) - 6+ Years

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Designer & Developer with specialized, expert-level proficiency in PostgreSQL. In this role, you will lead the architectural design, schema optimization, and long-term scalability of our data systems driving enterprise level applications. You will bridge the gap between complex business requirements and high-performance database execution. This role requires an expert who can write procedural code and implement advanced database designs to handle massive data volumes securely.
Key Responsibilities
Database Architecture: Architect clean, scalable PostgreSQL relational schemas, tables, and views.
Procedural Development: Write and maintain advanced PL/pgSQL stored procedures, functions, and complex triggers.
Performance Tuning: Analyze EXPLAIN execution plans to eliminate query bottlenecks and optimize memory footprints.
Data Modeling: Formulate logical and physical data structures utilizing normalization and dimensional modeling techniques.
Optimization Strategies: Implement custom table partitioning, sharding architectures, and strategic indexing.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with backend application developers to build efficient APIs and JSONB query strategies.
Data Governance: Enforce strict data integrity constraints, access controls, and row-level security protocols.
Lifecycle Management: Build database migration workflows, schema versioning scripts, and support ongoing CI/CD deployments.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 6 to 10 years of professional database engineering experience, with 4+ years strictly focused on PostgreSQL.
Language Mastery: Deep expertise in ANSI SQL and advanced, native PostgreSQL dialect patterns.
Feature Expertise: Proven usage of PostgreSQL-specific features like JSONB, window functions, arrays, and custom types.
Internals Knowledge: Solid understanding of engine internals including MVCC, VACUUM processes, and Write-Ahead Logging (WAL).
Automation Mastery: Good automation skills using scripting languages like Python or Bash.

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent engineering disciplines.

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills
Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience deploying managed PostgreSQL systems like AWS RDS, Azure Database, or GCP Cloud SQL.
Migration Experience: Background in porting enterprise workloads from Oracle (PL/SQL) or SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
Monitoring Tools: Experience diagnosing health through pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana, or pgAdmin.
Vector Extensions: Exposure to pgvector for handling AI/ML vector embeddings is a strong asset.
Hybrid Systems: Basic knowledge of NoSQL systems such as Redis, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
