Senior Underwriter (Insurance)

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to assess and evaluate insurance risks, ensuring compliance with our underwriting guidelines and state regulations. The Underwriter will play a key role in making risk-based decisions, analyzing property data, and collaborating with brokers and agents to maintain a profitable portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate new and renewal applications for homeowners' insurance policies to determine risk acceptability, pricing, and coverage terms.
Analyze underwriting data, including property inspections, loss history, and geographic risk factors, to make sound underwriting decisions.
Work closely with agents and brokers to provide guidance on underwriting policies and procedures.
Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines, state insurance regulations, and industry best practices.
Utilize underwriting tools, models, and software to assess risks effectively.
Recommend policy terms, conditions, and endorsements as needed.
Maintain strong relationships with third-party vendors, such as inspection companies and data providers.
Assist in developing underwriting strategies to enhance profitability and manage risk exposure.
Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks affecting the homeowners' insurance market.
Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriting staff as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Prior experience in homeowners' insurance underwriting.
Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy rating.
Familiarity with state-specific insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in underwriting software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
