Senior Accessibility Engineer

# What We're Looking For

We are seeking a highly skilled Accessibility Engineer to ensure our digital products are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This role will focus on evaluating, developing, and maintaining compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), Section 508, and other relevant global accessibility laws. The ideal candidate for this position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide remediation guidance, and advocate for an inclusive digital experience. # Responsibilities

- Standards & Guidelines Implementation: Ensure products meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, ADA, Section 508, and other international accessibility standards.
- Remediation & Guidance: Provide technical recommendations to designers and developers to fix accessibility issues.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for accessibility compliance, engaging with leadership and external auditors when required.
- Continuous Learning & Advocacy: Stay updated on evolving accessibility regulations and advocate for inclusive design principles within the organization.
- Cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing and best practices within the team, becoming a key person that all engineers look up to.
- Represent technical expertise in sales and client engagements to build confidence and support business development.
- Champion code quality, best practices, and engineering standards within the team, ensuring deliverables are of the highest quality.
- Assistive Technology Testing: Conduct testing using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies.
- Accessibility Compliance Audits: Perform accessibility evaluations for web applications, mobile apps, and digital content using automated and manual testing techniques.
- Collaboration & Training: Partner with UX/UI designers, developers, and project managers to integrate accessibility best practices into the development lifecycle.

# Qualifications

- At least 10 years of experience in Accessibility Engineering & Compliance
- Strong knowledge of WCAG, ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications), ADA, Section 508, and EN 301 549.
- Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or other front-end frameworks with a focus on accessibility.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as AXE, WAVE, Lighthouse, ANDI, or Tota11y.
- Experience working with assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- Passion for inclusive design and accessibility advocacy.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical roles, with skills in mentoring and fostering technical excellence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in client-facing roles, capable of addressing technical challenges confidently.
- Must be an enthusiast with a go-for-it attitude.
- Collaborative, proactive, and able to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

# Preferred Certifications (a single or a combination of these)

- Deque University Accessibility Training (Full Curriculum)
- W3C Web Accessibility Certificate (via edX)
- CPACC, WAS, or CPWA certification from IAAP (International Association of Accessibility Professionals).
- Experience in mobile accessibility (iOS and Android) testing and compliance.

# Bonus Points

- Experience with Automated Accessibility Testing in CI/CD – If you have integrated accessibility testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Pa11y, Axe-core CLI, or Deque DevTools, that’s a big plus!
- Experience with AI & Accessibility – If you have worked on AI-driven accessibility solutions or explored machine learning for automated accessibility testing, we’d love to hear about it!
- Contributions to the Accessibility Community – Have you spoken at accessibility conferences, written blogs on inclusive design, or contributed to open-source accessibility projects? That’s a great sign!
- Multi-Language & International Accessibility Standards – Knowledge of accessibility compliance beyond WCAG & ADA, such as EN 301 549 (EU), AODA (Canada), or JIS X 8341 (Japan), would be an added advantage.
- Usability Testing with People with Disabilities – If you have experience conducting usability studies with real users, including those with disabilities, that’s a strong differentiator!

Accessibility Developer

# Responsibilities

- Develop pages compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA or other applicable global accessibility standards from scratch wherever applicable.
- Integrate developed pages with any CMS, any JS frameworks, or any backend web technologies adhering to relevant accessibility guidelines.
- Implement necessary remediation steps wherever applicable to existing applications or applications we maintain.
- Stay at the forefront of advancements in various web technologies, accessibility standards and assistive technology to ensure our solutions and implementations are ahead of the curve and best in class.
- Collaborate closely with QAs, Designers, and Project and Delivery managers to integrate accessibility testing into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

- Must be a certified Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) or hold similar certifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience developing accessible applications.
- Proficient in HTML / CSS / ARIA / JavaScript and RWD.

- Profound understanding of WCAG 2.0 / 2.1 / 2.2 A / AA / AAA, Section 508, ADA, and EN 301 549.
