Magento Upgrade Consultant (Freelance – Advisory / Mentoring Role)

Project Overview

We are looking for an experienced Magento Consultant to guide our internal development team through the process of upgrading an existing Magento Open Source e-commerce platform.
The consultant will function as a technical mentor and advisor, helping our in-house developers execute the upgrade while ensuring the process follows best practices for Magento architecture, security, and performance.
The engagement will focus on technical guidance, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer, rather than full hands-on development.

Current platform details:
• Magento Open Source 2.4.0
• PHP 7.4
• Target upgrade: Magento 2.4.8 with PHP 8.3

The consultant will also guide the team in replacing the existing Razorpay payment gateway with ICICI Bank payment gateway integration.

Role & Responsibilities
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the internal development team during the Magento upgrade process.
• Review the existing Magento environment, modules, and theme compatibility before upgrade.
• Define the recommended upgrade approach and architecture.
• Guide the internal team in upgrading Magento 2.4.0 to Magento 2.4.8.
• Assist the team in performing PHP upgrade from 7.4 to 8.3.
• Provide guidance on handling extension compatibility and dependency conflicts.
• Support the team in removing Razorpay payment gateway and integrating ICICI Bank payment gateway.
• Assist with troubleshooting issues during upgrade and deployment.
• Ensure the process follows Magento best practices for deployment, testing, and security.
• Conduct knowledge transfer sessions so the internal team can independently manage future Magento upgrades.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of experience working with Magento 2
• Proven experience in Magento version upgrades and migrations
• Strong knowledge of Magento architecture, modules, and Composer-based deployments
• Good understanding of PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS
• Experience with Magento payment gateway integrations
• Familiarity with Linux-based cloud hosting environments (AWS / Lightsail / similar)

• Experience mentoring or guiding development teams in Magento upgrade projects
• Experience with Magento performance optimization
• Experience working with cloud-hosted Magento environments
